Go to www.sciencenews.org again and read an article related to DNA in some fashion. You can search their archive. Write a synopsis of the entire article, not just the first and last paragraph. Make sure you include the title of the article you read.

Reading

Go to this site http://www.sciencenews.org/ read one of the articles and write a brief summary. Choose an article that has not been summarized by someone else. Post your summary to the blog so everyone can read it. Free points will be provided.

Krebs Cycle Quiz

Diagram on the quiz of the Krebs cycle found on page 165. Make sure you know the products and reactants.

GET ON IT

Quiz scores are dropping which is an indication that less preparation is occurring. You need to change this trend!

Unit 2 Test

Make sure you look over the graph for water potential for the potato cores. Know what is needed to determine water potential. Cell to cell communication such as neuron to neuron will be encluded. Organelle structure and function. And a question about cell division in plants and animals.

Stuff

If you are having issues with any part of the class feel free to pose questions here. Nothing will be posted that you don't want posted. Remember labs are due Tuesday 9/22. If you have questions about it ask before then.

Membrane

Make sure you are famiiar with the cell membrane structure and the function of the membrane proteins. Good job on the lab, if you have questions make sure you ask them before the weekend. You can ask them here and I will respond.

Membrane Quiz

I am going to ask how a macromolecule can get through the membrane so make sure you know. I will also ask how water passes through.

Quiz tomorrow. Be familiar with the production of proteins. You will also need to fill blanks with appropriate organelles or structures with specific functions such as what organelle is involved in transporting membranes and products to various parts of the cell.

Test 1

Test Tuesday covering chapters 1-5. 40 multiple choice questions, 2 Free Response questions. One deals directly with the properties of water, the other with phospholipids and proteins. If you have concerns voice them here.

WEEK 1

Good job on the quizzes. Keep it up. If you have questions you can ask them here and noone else will see them if ask me not to post it. Make sure you know the structure of the functional groups, and the shape of the various isomers.

Hope you all had a great summer and are ready and MOTIVATED to learn about the living world around us. This will be a demanding and rewarding course. I have high expectations for each and every one of you!
